CONCORD, North Carolina (Tuesday, March 9, 2010) - Street-Wise Drift (SWD) has announced that it will be hosting Round 1 of its Pro AM drifting series at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS) in Concord, North Carolina. The Formula Drift Pro AM will be held on March 13, 2010 at the track known as the "Beast of the South East," formerly Lowes Motor Speedway.
Drifting is one of the most creative forms of motorsports, and SWD has chosen to host its inaugural Pro AM event at CMS to demonstrate that the track, which is in the middle of stock car racing's hub, is not solely a NASCAR venue. The track will now host skilled drifters from all over the East Coast, who will compete for a chance to earn their Formula Drift Pro License.
Founded by twin brothers Brian and Todd Phillips, Street-Wise Drift provides an opportunity for both professional and amateur motorsports enthusiasts to gain seat time and compete in sanctioned race series events. SWD allows anyone with a rear-wheel drive vehicle to push their driving skills to the limit, and encourages drivers to use tracks, rather than the streets, as a safe and competitive outlet for racing and drifting.
Street-Wise Drift's format frequently attracts professional Formula Drift drivers such as Doug Vanderbrink, Darren McNemara and two-time World Drifting Champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. to test, judge and participate at competitions.
Additionally, car shows for all makes and models are held in conjunction with all SWD events, allowing car aficionados to admire a wide variety of automobiles up close while taking in the drifting competitions, providing something for every car enthusiast to enjoy.
Continued support from the local motorsports community will aid in the expansion and the ability of Street-Wise Drift to fulfill its goal, which is to "provide drivers with a safe place to compete and play out their lead-foot dreams, and to continue to introduce the always exhilarating sport of drifting."
Street-Wise Drift encourages anyone, drivers or spectators, with an interest in their innovative sport to check their website, www.StreetwiseDrift.com, for dates and locations of upcoming events.
